About LPhiE at NYU

image 1

In the Fall of 1995, a man by the name of Manuel Chang arrived on the campuses of New York University subsequently changing the face of ethnic Greek life in New York City as we know it to be. Recently transferred from the State University of New York, Buffalo, Mr. Chang was already a passionate brother of Lambda Phi Epsilon. Pledging twice, frist with Delta Gamma Tau (the pre-existing organization at SUNY Buffalo before adopting Lambda Phi Epsilon) and then again as part of Buffalo’s Alpha Class, Mr. Chang crossed in the Fall of 1991. His dedication to the goals and virtues of the fraternity were undeniable, evident in the principles he brought with him from Buffalo to a new and unsuspecting campus. Mr. Chang felt that the large Asian population at NYU, in what was supposed to be one of the most diverse universities in the country, was heavily underrepresented, and desperately needed another voice.

Mr. Chang began a long and arduous process of recruiting men that shared the same beliefs and drive as he did in the city that never slept. What eventually became 10 men, the New York University Charter Chapter was born. Under the guidance of Nu Chapter, SUNY Buffalo, these men embarked on their dream of establishing a chapter. The road was long and the journey was often hard. Pushed to their limits they soon learned that the sky, in fact, was the limit; that the only limits were the ones they set for themselves inside their hed. The ten men stayed true to the path, and on the morning of June 9, 1996, rose from the ice and snow covered fields of Buffalo, tried and true, ready to accomplish things they never thought possible. Thus was established the first Asian American Greek Organization, fraternity or sorority, of its kind in New York City.
